| The framework of the Religion In Life® curriculum provides a balance between the students’ experience of life and some of the fundamental stories and teaching from the Christian experience of faith. Religion In Life® takes seriously the need to expand the students’ religious knowledge and experience and, for each age group, this is related to the students’ capacities and abilities. |

In Life® curriculum framework charts
These charts show the layout of the Religion In Life® curriculum framework and the correlation between the life and faith dimensions. On the left hand side, the headings indicate key aspects of the students’ experience of life, appropriate to each age group, out of which arise common human issues and big life-questions. A brief expression from the general community about these is given under each heading. The right hand side of reach chart gives a brief outline of the biblical content and lists some of the selected stories and teaching from the Christian faith community. These are grouped as units of work, with several learning sessions, providing an opportunity for the students to explore the issues raised. Some of units of work follow a biblical story or character sequentially, with time for the students to explore connections with similar present-day issues. Other units focus on the students’ personal experience, with opportunity to reflect on and learn from the correlating Christian experience of faith. Some of these same issues and experiences are explored further in the next age group, and increase in complexity with growing maturity. This development is demonstrated in the charts. |
| Some examples
For children in their first year of school, the issue of relating to others is included under the heading Self & Others and, recognising the closely dependent nature of these students, is explored in the context of familiar situations. This issue is expanded for children aged 6-8 years under the heading Relationships & Friendships as they explore aspects of friendship. By ages 10-12 the issue of relating to others is significant and is explored more fully under this heading and expanded further under the heading Community & Environment. Balanced with this, and using the same focus of Self & Others, young children are introduced to the Christian belief in Jesus as a friend who can be trusted. Children aged 6-8 years will explore issues of conflict and forgiveness as stories of people of faith like David, Jacob and Martha are introduced. Issues of responsibility and reconciliation arising from Bible stories are explored with children aged 8-10 years. In each case, the issues arising from the biblical content which correlate with the students’ experience of life are highlighted. The charts can be read as a summary of these common experiences of faith in particular. |

In Life® cycles
The charts also identify where key biblical content and teaching from the Christian faith are included in any one cycle of Religion In Life® by reading down the selected column from one chart to the next. At the same time, the correlating life issues can be readily identified. |
| Link with the Teachers’ Book
The Teachers’ Book for each Religion In Life® program provides and overview of the contents, parts 1 and 2, which lists the units of work and the number of teaching sessions, and identifies and describes the correlating life and faith dimensions. |
