| Identity
& Love
In a new environment, knowing who they are and that they are important to others helps children to develop their sense of self and to gain confidence in their abilities. |
God knows each person by name, as Nathanael discovered. Images from the Bible reflecting God’s love for people are found in the stories of Creation, Abraham and Sarah, the Psalms and the teachings of Jesus. |
| Security & Trust
The children’s expanding world is both demanding and fascinating. Supported by the acceptance and reassurance of caring adults, they are learning to talk about feelings and to express emotions, particularly as they experience sadness and change. |
Children’s
understanding of relating to others and sharing are expanded
as they hear stories about Zacchaeus, sisters Mary and Martha, and others
who learned to trust Jesus as a friend, and the children whom Jesus welcomed.
Jesus taught his friends to talk to God in prayers. |

Stories
of children who knew God, show how children’s capacities can develop
in times of change. Miriam, Samuel and others all experienced
God’s provision and care.
Easter is celebrated as a happy time after great sadness. |
| Curiosity & Wonder
As they play and explore their world, new ideas and questions rsie out of children’s active curiosity. This needs to be nurtured to include an interest in the wider world. |
Children explore
ideas about God, themselves and the world as they look at the gifts
of God at home and in nature. People can express their thanks
to God in prayers, as David did.
God’s best gift, Jesus, is celebrated at Christmas. |
